What kind of paper do you use?

I work almost exclusively on Yupo paper.  YUPO is a 100% recyclable, waterproof, tree-free Synthetic Paper.  I can achieve a very “watery” look with lots of movement because the water evaporates leaving the pigment on the paper instead of soaking into the paper.  I love the texture effects I can get with this paper!

What kind of photos are best for you to work from?

I encourage people to send me their favorite photos first, but, the better the photo, the better the painting.  The best photos to send me are clear, at a close distance, and well lit.  Try to choose something that shows personality, and has interest and movement!  If you commission a portrait,  I will ALWAYS ask you to tell me the eye color of the subjects.  Photos can be deceiving in this department, no matter how clear.

Can you put two photos into one painting?

I will have to see the photos.  So far, all requests to do this have been successful.  If you would like a certain object in the painting, this is easier.  People and animals in separate photos can be harder to join because of angles, perspective and lighting.

Do I need to have my painting professionally matted and framed?

No.  It frames like a photo, therefor does not need to be matted.  If you do like the look of a mat, choose one that is acid-free. Framing is up to you.  Frame it professionally or purchase a ready -made frame.  They also look really cool in floating glass frames – just my opinion.

How do I care for my painting?

Your painting will arrive  flat and ready to frame.  I spray all my finished pieces with a UV-Resistant Acrylic Coating to seal them.  I also recommend keeping the painting away from moisture to avoid damage.  A steamy bathroom is not the best place to hang an original work of art.

When will my painting be finished?

At the moment, please allow 4-6 weeks for me to complete your painting.  If you need it for a special occasion, please let me know and I will see what I can do. But, if you are on a deadline, please remember that I sell gift certificates!

What if I want changes to the painting?

After getting your photos and a basic idea of what you are looking for in a painting, I make sure to keep you involved in every step of my painting process; from the layout through the final product. That way, there are no surprises, and if I need to make changes to the “finished” product, they are small.  I want to make sure you are happy with the piece you commission.  Period.

Having said that, I LOVE hearing the words, “You are the artist and I trust you” from my customers.   That means a lot, and I promise I will create a piece that you love!

Why can’t I commission 4 figures to be painted on an 8 x 10 piece of paper?

I have a certain painting style, use a specific type of paper, and I know what works best for the detail and clarity I want to achieve.  Trust me.

Can you mat and frame my painting before shipping?

Sure!  Well, I can’t do it myself, but I work with a wonderful local frame shop, Custom Corners, and she does a fabulous job and has great prices!  I will be glad to give you a quote and send pictures of the painting with different color mats and/or frames around it to help you decide!  I will then ship it UPS so it is securely and professionally packed (shipping prices listed on my page do not apply to matted/framed pieces).
