Artist. Mom. Animal lover.  HS art teacher!

Just Me!2014 WM

I have been involved in art all my life.  Coming from a line of artists including my Great Aunt Katherine (Kaki), and my mom, I can thank good genetics for my talent.

I grew up in the Roanoke Valley and graduated from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!!!) with a B.A., Art being one of my majors.  I also have an Independent Studies Major consisting of minors in History, Asian Culture and Religion.  You can probably infer that I am not a math person.

I decided I needed to “get a real job” and proceeded to work on my M.A.T. from Hollins University. I still dabbled in art while in graduate school, taking private art lessons from a local artist with my mom for a time.

Next, I was off to Virginia Beach where I taught Elementary School for eight years in Norfolk, VA.  It was challenging, rewarding, heartbreaking, frustrating and exciting all at one time.  I love that I still get texts, messages, and emails from former students and parents almost 10 years later.  Connections are what matter in life.

Since moving to SC and having our daughter in 2010, I have been lucky enough to be a SAHM. Once I finally started getting more than 3 hours of interrupted sleep at night, I found time to get back into my painting using our little angel as my inspiration!  Best decision I have ever made!  I was a WAHM for over 5 years, then I was pulled in another direction.  I just began teaching high school art at the local high school, and it is the job I never knew I wanted.  I also didn’t realize how much I missed teaching.  This is where I am suppose to be.  Life is good!

Being an artist is my Dream Job!  Put simply, art makes me happy.  I have also learned and grown so much just connecting with people through my art!  My customers are amazing, and I am honored that they trust me to paint their stories.  I am also thrilled to be able to give back as much as I can with my art – donating to animal rescues around the country.

Shaina Kay Stinard is a fine artist working out of South Carolina.  Originally from the Roanoke Valley, she received her B.A. in Art from Virginia Tech.  She is known for her vibrant, crisp, expressive, modern style watercolors.  An International artist with paintings in Scotland and Canada, Shaina specializes in watercolor on Yupo paper creating custom paintings of people, pets and places from photos.  Being an animal lover, she also work closely with many animal rescues, donating custom portraits to raise money as often as possible.
